In Mexico, a ban on the use of mobile phones and tablets in primary and secondary schools will come into force on November 3. This was stated by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Devices can be stored in backpacks, but use them is prohibited both during lessons and during breaks. Restrictions will not apply in emergency situations and cases related to the special needs of children.
The decision of the National Council of Educational Authorities (Conaedu) was passed unanimously on September 18 with the participation of representatives from all 32 states. After the publication of the document, the Ministry of Public Education will be given 30 days to explain the new rules to teachers and parents.
In institutions of secondary special education, the rules for the use of devices will be established independently. In universities, there are no plans to impose a ban. According to a survey of 565,000 teachers, 81 percent favored special rules for the use of mobile devices in schools.
