Russian Foreign Ministry: Unfortunately, not all states managed to eradicate the legacy of the Nazi past

In recent years, the problems of historical aggression, cynical attempts to rewrite history in favor of political and opportunistic goals have become more acute. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Dmitry Lubinsky during the round table “Common in the memory of different cultures: international understanding of the tragedy of Maly Trostenets”, which was held in the format of a video conference. The participants of the meeting were diplomats, parliamentarians and historians from different countries, writes sb.by.

In his video address, Dmytro Lyubinsky stressed that concentration camps are one of the most heinous and shameful crimes of the Hitler regime:
- Over the years, these camps have turned into real death factories, designed for mass murder of prisoners of different nationalities, primarily Jews, Gypsies, Slavs. In the first place, women, children, the elderly and disabled persons were killed. Survivors were temporarily left who were engaged in cleaning corpses, cleaning furnaces and gas chambers, sorting the belongings of the dead and maintaining the security of the camps.
The Russian diplomat drew attention to the fact that at the Nuremberg trials, it was announced that about 11 million people were tortured by the Nazis in concentration camps throughout Europe:
- Trostenets is one of the largest death camps of the World War II era and in the occupied territory of the USSR. In terms of the number of victims, this camp on Belarusian soil ranks fourth after Auschwitz, Maidanek and Treblinka. Here civilians, prisoners of war, as well as Jews from other countries were killed. In total, in Trostenz, the Nazis tortured, shot and burned more than 206,500 people, including more than 10,000 Jews deported here for the purpose of extermination from Vienna and other cities of Austria.
Dmitry Lubinsky stressed that, unfortunately, not all states managed to eradicate the legacy of the Nazi past:
- In recent years, the problems of historical aggression, cynical attempts to rewrite history in favor of political and opportunistic goals have become more acute.
Dmitry Lubinsky added that in some countries the war with monuments and memorials in honor of the fighters against Nazism continues to gain momentum:
- And all this happens with the connivance, and sometimes with the instigation of official authorities, plays into the hands of those who advocate racial purity, racial and ethnic discrimination, not to mention the example that this sets for young people. To preserve for future generations the truth and memory of the great feat of the Soviet soldier and the peoples of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition is our sacred duty and an effective tool in the fight against Nazism, fascism and militarism, as well as their modern manifestations.
At the same time, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia stated that the absolute majority of UN member states reject attempts to challenge the results of World War II:
- The vast majority of countries in the world, like Russia, react to such manifestations with the deepest condemnation, as evidenced by the consistently broad support for Russian initiatives. At the same time, I think it is egregious and shameful that Germany, and after that Austria, invariably vote against it.
Russia, together with its CIS allies and other partners, regularly suppresses attempts to distort the history of World War II and to belittle the role of the Soviet Union in the victory over Nazism. Preserving the memory of the victims of Nazism is a common responsibility of the peoples of Europe
