Man walks around the globe in 28 years

Former British paratrooper Carl Bushby has completed a round-the-world journey on foot, returning to Britain 28 years after starting his expedition. It's reported by ITV News. The 57-year-old began his journey on November 1, 1998 from Punta Arenas, Chile, with two strict rules: not to use any transport to move forward and not to return home to Britain until he completes his round-the-world journey.
On foot, he crossed South America, passed through the dangerous Darien gap, reached Alaska, and then made the first ever crossing of the Bering Strait from east to west, overcoming certain areas by swimming. For 28 years, the man covered about 50 thousand kilometers and crossed 29 countries, including Siberia, Mongolia and China. In addition, he sailed across the Caspian Sea for 31 days, which in itself was a serious test.
During the final stretch of the route, Bushby planned to pass through a service tunnel under the English Channel, but the authorities denied him access, citing security issues and repair work. Then the traveler decided to swim across the strait, which required special permission from the French government, since usually swims through the English Channel begin only from the British side. He spent about 20 hours in the water, stretching the crossing for three days due to strong winds, and on Monday, October 5, went to Shakespeare beach south of Dover, where he was met by his father, brothers and friends.
Mr Bushby said he was pleased to have British soil under his feet after so many years. He acknowledged that the journey was not easy and said that was the whole point of proving that he could do more than he thought he could. He believes that all people can achieve more than they can imagine. Despite his return to the UK, the trip has not yet been officially completed, leaving him to walk to his mother’s home in Hull, where he plans to arrive within a month. Director Werner Herzog, making a documentary about his expedition, personally met the traveler on the shore.
