The man received €1.29 million inheritance (about 122.5 million rubles) and died in a homeless shelter. Italian Victor Spadjari lived in Galway, Ireland for more than a decade, but never took advantage of his fortune. His fate was reported on October 10 by The Irish Times.
Spadjari grew up in a wealthy family in Milan. His father worked as an architect, and after the death of his parents in 2012 and 2013, Victor inherited the family fortune. Despite this, he continued to live in Ireland and did not change his lifestyle.
A man moved to Galway to learn Irish. He spent a lot of time in the mall, reading newspapers and books, and was interested in Celtic history, folklore and mythology. Friends described him as an intelligent, withdrawn and unusual person.
At first, Spadjari slept on the street and at the bus stop. He later settled at Fairgreen Hostel, a homeless shelter, where he spent the last ten years of his life. Employees at the Cope Galway charity helped him with housing and daily needs.
Victor died in May 2024 at the age of 65. After his death, it was revealed that he had not left a will. Registration of the inheritance was taken up by his cousin Alberto Tota. According to the shelter staff, without their support, the man would probably be on the street again, despite his fortune.
