On the basis of the North Caucasus Federal University, the XIII International Forum of Caucasian Historians “Peoples of the Caucasus in the XVIII–XXI centuries: history, politics, culture” was launched. The event was organized by NCFU, the Federal Research Center “Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences” and the Southern Federal University with the support of the Humanitarian Foundation “Caucasus – New Horizons”, the Foundation for Regional Studies “Country” and the Center for Media Strategies.
The forum brought together more than three hundred participants at the NCFU, 200 of whom are speakers: Russian scientists, researchers and experts from Georgia, Armenia and Abkhazia.
Professor Tatiana Shebzukhova, Rector of NCFU, noted the long-term work on preserving historical memory with Rossotrudnichestvo, the Russian Historical and Military Historical Societies, the Foundation of Compatriots Abroad.
The discussion focuses on current issues of history, politics and culture in the Caucasus during the imperial, Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The main directions of the forum were new approaches and sources of modern Caucasian studies, political and socio-economic development of the Caucasus, problems of regional security and armed conflicts, as well as the Caucasus as a space for dialogue of cultures.
In addition, three round tables are planned on national-state transformations in the Caucasus, geopolitical interests of world and regional powers, as well as ethno-political conflicts and memory politics.
The forum is dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the Manifesto on the accession of Eastern Georgia to Russia in 1801.
