In Moscow, the Arctic Youth Project Laboratory BRICS Project Lab Arctic 3.0 was opened at the MGIMO site. The organizers were the Scientific Student Society of MGIMO and the Expert Center “Arctic Development Project Office” (PORA). The laboratory will last until October 30 and will bring together participants from Russia, India, Kenya and other countries.
Young specialists will work on practical tasks proposed by industrial partners. PORA Director General Maxim Dankin delivered a welcoming speech.
The laboratory allows you to focus on specific issues of development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and the Arctic as a whole, and most importantly – to find practical solutions. In the spring, we already conducted the first BRICS laboratory at the PORA site. One team worked on the development of a mechanism for investment protection and promotion agreements (IPPAs). Today we see that such decisions are being discussed at different levels, including in the State Duma and the Federation Council.
Denis Kuznetsov, the scientific director of the laboratory, stressed that in five years the project has turned into a unique youth analytical center. Experts noted the importance of international scientific and technical cooperation for the sustainable development of the Arctic. Combining the efforts of BRICS countries, companies, scientific and educational organizations is one of the key factors in ensuring sustainable development of the Arctic region.
The participants were also asked to solve three practical tasks for the development of the Russian presence in Svalbard, taking into account Norwegian legislation.
480 applications were received for participation in the project, 159 interviews were held. The work is organized on seven tracks.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the head of the analytical unit of the Expert Center PORA Maxim Tsygankov, Director of the Department of International Relations of the Expert Center PORA Ekaterina Serova and others.
