New accident leaves Cuba without electricity

The Cuban National Electricity System shut down on September 18. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy and Mining Industry of the Republic.

The department announced the beginning of restoration work. To return the power supply, the specialists used appropriate protocols for restoring the power system.

The previous total blackouts occurred in Cuba in July. Then the national power system failed three times in less than 10 days, which left almost the entire territory of the country without electricity for a long time.

The situation with the energy supply of the republic was significantly complicated in early 2026 after the introduction of measures by the US authorities aimed at limiting oil supplies to the island. For most of the summer, Cuba faced widespread power outages and water supply problems.
