Novosibirsk residents warned about fraud with mention of public services

In the regional Department of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia reported about the emergence of a new type of deception. Scammers make calls, posing as employees of the hotline of the portal of public services, and intimidate citizens by the fact that their accounts are allegedly hacked.

Criminals replace phone numbers to match the official contacts of the department. After that, they insist on an immediate call back, while threatening serious consequences for the personal account.

The department stressed that the portal of public services never informs users about the compromise of accounts in this way. All such reports are false and designed to be credulous.

“It’s important to remember that your safety starts with the simple habit of not responding to urgent ‘call right now’ demands,” police said in a statement.

Citizens of the region are urged to clarify any information on the official website of public services or directly contact law enforcement agencies. It is also strongly recommended that older family members be warned not to be cheated.
