Novosibirsk TSUM began to prepare for demolition
In the center of Novosibirsk began preparations for the dismantling of the building of the former TSUM

After the demolition of TSUM, a multifunctional complex of three buildings is planned to be built on the site. The main element will be a 33-storey residential tower with a height of about 116 meters. It will have 395 apartments.
Nearby are going to build a 10-storey business center for 240 offices and an eight-storey residential building for 78 apartments. The project also includes an underground parking for 781 cars, a kindergarten, a shop and a shopping gallery along the Railway Station.
Construction is planned for three stages and should be completed by mid-2031.
Novosibirsk TSUM opened in 1967 at the intersection of Dimitrov Avenue and the Railway Station. The building was built according to the project of architects from Riga in the style of Soviet modernism.
For several decades, the department store remained one of the main shopping centers of the city. It played a particularly prominent role in the Soviet years, when the shortage of goods turned large shops into important urban points of attraction.
After a fire in 2001 that engulfed all three floors of the building, TSUM was unable to regain its former status. Over time, the building began to be perceived as morally obsolete.
The decision to dismantle the building divided the citizens. Some advocated the preservation of the TSUM as one of the symbols of Soviet Novosibirsk, others believed that its technical condition no longer allows for effective use of the facility.
In 2025, activists tried to challenge the legality of coordinating the project of integrated development of the territory. In February 2026, the mayor’s office did not coordinate a rally against the demolition, pointing to the connection of one of the organizers with a person recognized as a foreign agent. The prosecutor's office after the inspection found no violations in the actions of the municipality.
Residents of neighboring houses are concerned about the appearance of a 33-storey tower. Novosibirsk residents fear an increase in the burden on roads, schools and clinics.
The developer, for his part, undertook to reconstruct the unfinished building of the Lyceum “Hope of Siberia”. After the completion of the work, there are plans to create 185 additional training places.
Earlier, “MK in Novosibirsk” reported that the authorities allowed to demolish 55 houses in the Zaeltsovsky district.
