Novosibirsk lawyer warned summer residents about fines up to 700 thousand for the Canadian goldenrod
Canadian goldenrod, which gardeners grow as an ornamental plant, can cause an administrative fine of up to 700 thousand rubles for land owners

Canadian goldenrod has long been considered a harmless ornamental plant, but now its uncontrolled growth is not just an aesthetic problem, but a direct violation of the law. From March 1, 2026, it is included in the list of plants, the distribution of which creates legal risks for land owners, up to large fines, the expert explained.
For failure to comply with the requirements for the protection of land from dangerous plants, citizens may face a fine of 20 to 50 thousand rubles, officials - from 50 to 100 thousand, legal entities - from 400 to 700 thousand rubles.
“One bush can produce up to one hundred thousand seeds, and their germination reaches 95 percent. Imagine the rate at which this culture is taking over territory, displacing native plant species. That is why the legislator classified it as especially dangerous, the lawyer said.
The duties of landowners to protect land from dangerous invasive plants are enshrined in land and environmental protection legislation. Specific measures and responsibilities depend on the legal status of the territory and the regional norms in force.
Owners of cottages who found goldenrod on the site are recommended to clarify the requirements in the local administration and take measures to prevent further spread of the plant.
Earlier, "MK in Novosibirsk" reported that summer residents were forbidden to grow American maple.
