Nyagan doctors of Ugra gave a second chance to a patient with thromboembolism
49-year-old resident of the village Big Leushi did not even have time to understand what is happening to her

49-year-old resident of the village Big Leushi did not even have time to understand what was happening to her. Severe shortness of breath, and then two fainting in a row. The ambulance board of the Center for Disaster Medicine urgently lifted her into the air and delivered her to the Nyagan district hospital. The examination left doctors no time to think: a massive bilateral pulmonary embolism. The blood flow in the lungs was critically disturbed, and the count went on for hours, if not minutes.
The hospital’s specialists used a technology that a few years ago seemed like science fiction – ultrasonic catheter thrombolysis using the EKOS system. Through a small puncture in the femoral vein, a thin catheter was carried out to the clot. The drug was delivered directly to the thrombosis zone in much smaller doses than with conventional treatment, and at the same time the clot was exposed to ultrasound, helping to dissolve it faster and more accurately.
The procedure took place around the clock. But the fracture came much earlier - after six hours, the patient felt that breathing became easier. Control ECHO confirmed positive dynamics. A day later, the woman was transferred from intensive care to the cardiology department, and a week later she was preparing to be discharged home.
Nyagan district hospital became the fourth center in Ugra, where the EKOS system is used. During the nine months of 2026, hospital doctors treated 25 patients with pulmonary embolism.
