Optical “ring” for 55 km will connect traffic lights and cameras of Minsk
Minsk will create a trunk optical “ring” with a length of more than 55 km – a high-speed network that will connect traffic lights, cameras and the Central Railway.

Minsk will create a main optical “ring” with a length of more than 55 km – a high-speed network that will connect traffic lights, cameras and the Central control center, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports.

According to the State Military Industrial Committee, the construction of the highway is the foundation for a full-fledged intelligent transport system (ITS). The project will allow to quickly regulate traffic light phases, reduce traffic jams and prepare the road network of Minsk for smart city technologies.
The highway will be laid along the contour of the 2nd transport ring. It will be the basis for data exchange between the road equipment and the control center.
So, the traffic lights will bring fiber optic to connect the cameras and transmit video to the central point. Road controllers will connect to it using the new protocol, and the ring circuit will not allow communication to be interrupted, even if one cable is damaged.
The launch of technical solutions will begin in 2027.
