Today, October 7, in the city of Kamenets, Brest region, a solemn reburial of the remains of 43 servicemen of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army took place. Two of them died in 1941, the rest took the last battle in 1944 during the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

The mass grave of Soviet soldiers and partisans is located in the very center of Kamenets. More than 1,700 people are buried there. According to Orthodox traditions, 43 more heroes who died during the Great Patriotic War for the freedom and independence of the Motherland have found their last refuge here today.

Participation in the mourning ceremony of reburial was taken by the Chairman of the Kamenetsky District Executive Committee Vladimir Senchuk. In his speech, he noted that Belarus pays great attention to the preservation of historical truth:
- As the President emphasizes, we must do everything so that the memory of heroes lives in the hearts of grateful descendants. I am addressing young people separately. You are standing on a land that remembers war. It is up to you whether the memory of her defenders remains alive. Not formally, not on holidays, but for real. Appreciate what you have. Appreciate the peace you have got. And remember at what price it was won. We must remember not to live in the past, but to understand the cost of peace and to prevent the recurrence of tragedies.

In July and August of this year, large-scale work was carried out at four sites of the Kamenetsky district. They were conducted by servicemen of the 1st and 2nd specialized search companies of the 52nd separate specialized search battalion together with the search group “Fatherland” from the Republic of Tatarstan and the consolidated search team of the Penza region.
- There are residents in the Kamenetsky district who remember where the soldiers of the Red Army fought. Thus, burials were found in several places of the Belovezhskaya Forest. Today we pay tribute to our defenders of the Fatherland. It is very important that there is a younger generation here. This ceremony reminds them that the monument was erected here for a reason. Here lies the ashes of those who brought us Victory, — said the military commissar of the Kamenetsky district Vyacheslav Goreyko. — The last reburial in the mass grave of Kamenets was about 10 years ago.

- We will always remember what they did for us, future generations. We have clear skies and Belarus is an independent country. Search work does not stop, and more and more families learn about the fate of their heroes. Our gymnasium also has a search team: we study various documents, look for information about those who took part in the Great Patriotic War. Create historical dioramas. We also restore order at memorial sites and military graves.

During the war on the territory of the Kamenetsky district, the occupiers completely or partially destroyed at least 70 settlements, 15 of them were not revived. Liberating their native land, thousands of people died here.
- Reburial of the remains is not just about moving them to another place. Behind every find is human destiny. It was someone's son, father, brother or friend. Many soldiers died far from home, and their names and burial sites remained unknown for a long time. Preserving and transmitting historical memory from generation to generation is our duty. As long as we remember, the feat of these people will not be forgotten. And, investigating the criminal case of genocide of the Belarusian people, we show the real appearance of those who are now trying to revive fascism, said the Prosecutor of the Kamenetsky district Alexander Verbitsky.
