Interregional Department No. 122 of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency announced a warning to the First St. Petersburg State Medical University named after Pavlov. The reason was a possible complication in the patient after a blood transfusion: she had the destruction of red blood cells - red blood cells that carry oxygen through the body, follows from the data of the Prosecutor General's Office.
The department pointed to several violations. Doctors did not include information about the complication in a single database of blood donation, and did not provide the results of an internal check, which was supposed to establish the causes of the incident.
In addition, before the transfusion, the patient did not conduct one of the necessary tests - an analysis for antibodies that can react with donor red blood cells. This test helps to assess the compatibility of blood donor and patient. The document also states that the patient could be transfused with blood components incompatible with her individual characteristics.
The FMBA noted that the university did not provide all information about the investigation into the causes of the complication. The warning was issued to a medical institution, the rector of which since 2013 is Sergey Bagnenko.
