The beginning of autumn 2026 in the Northern capital was among the warmest in the history of observations, occupying the 15th line. The month was the second on the list. This was told by weather forecaster Mikhail Leus.
According to the weather forecaster, for St. Petersburg, the first month of autumn was warmer than usual, but it did not reach absolute maximums. For comparison: in Moscow, the same period became the fourth among the warmest in the XXI century.
According to the Hydrometeorological Center, in Russia as a whole, September 2026 took the second place among the hottest. The championship is still in September 2020.
Most of the heat went to the Urals and Western Siberia. There for almost the whole month the thermometers kept above the climatic norm, and the average deviation was 3-6 degrees or more. In the Urals, monthly averages have become a record since 1891. New highs were also noted in the Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Omsk and Kemerovo regions, as well as in the Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Districts.
In the European part of the country, September was also warmer than usual. This is especially noticeable in the Russian North and in the Volga region, where the deviation reached 2-3 degrees. In the last ten days of the month in the Vologda, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod regions, the air warmed up to +20. +25.
In the Far East - in the Khabarovsk Territory, the Amur Region and Sakhalin - there were also daily heat records. But the overall figures for the month they almost did not affect: there the average values remained close to normal, even with a slight minus.
But today the weather in St. Petersburg has already deteriorated. In the city came the North Atlantic cyclone "Felizia". During the day, St. Petersburg residents were promised rain, and the air will warm up to +12 ... +14 degrees.
