The holiday is associated with two incidents in the temple in Phrygia. At first, a mute girl was healed there: her father dreamed of an archangel and pointed to a source whose water helped the child find the gift of speech. In the morning, the man brought his daughter to this place, she drank water and spoke, and the father in gratitude built a church nearby.

The second miracle happened to the building itself. In the fourth century, the pagans wanted to destroy it and broke through the dam, directing the flow to the temple. The priest Arkhip began to pray, and then Michael appeared, hit the ground with a rod, and a crack formed, which absorbed the water. Eyewitnesses – pagans – saw this, some fled, and some converted to Christianity.
