Why the Internet does not work in Russia on October 13
Tuesday, October 13, 2026, was another day of the most severe infrastructure crisis for the Russian segment of the Internet

Downdetector and Sboy.rf, over the past day across the country recorded tens of thousands of complaints about the inaccessibility of network resources. In the anti-rating of regions by the number of incidents, the Novosibirsk region consistently holds positions in the top five.
Since hundreds of third-party companies work on the basis of Yandex Cloud (which went into emergency mode), a “domino effect” has arisen. Users reported difficulties with authorization in the T-Bank application, failures on marketplaces (Avito, Ozon, Wildberries), inability to buy tickets on the Russian Railways website, as well as unstable work of the medical service "Apteka.Ru". Services “Yandex Go” and “Yandex Food” function with restrictions, and the cloud “Yandex” forced to cut the functions of the disk and file sharing to reduce the load on the surviving servers. In parallel, the fixation of failures is complemented by point restrictions of cellular base stations, which special services use as part of security measures against UAVs.
What experts say
IT industry analysts estimate the current situation as the deepest technical crisis in the history of the Runet. General Director of ComNews Group Leonid Konik in an interview with Kommersant notes that the cumulative losses of the economy from the downtime of logistics chains, taxi aggregators, state control systems (such as the Rosselkhoznadzor) and online banking are already estimated at billions of rubles a day.
Experts emphasize that Yandex has lost three zones of presence at once, which is why redundant algorithms for redirecting traffic cannot cope with the load. The remaining data centers in Moscow and partner sites in Novosibirsk (in particular, Selectel) are working at their limits. Experts agree that the business made a strategic mistake by completely entrusting its databases to a single centralized cloud system without having physically separate cold backups.
When will the Internet be fixed?
A quick solution to the problem should not be expected. Sources of Kommersant on the IT market say that it will take from several months to six months to completely eliminate the consequences of the infrastructure disaster. The main difficulty lies in the purchase and delivery of high-tech server equipment and supercomputer chips, the import of which is strictly limited by international sanctions.
In the short term, Yandex and its partners will try to distribute traffic through alternative Russian cloud platforms (VK Cloud, K2Cloud) and overseas servers in Kazakhstan or China. For end-users, this means that Internet services in Novosibirsk and across Russia will continue to operate in waves during the fall, with regular speed drawdowns, falling mobile applications and temporary unavailability of familiar sites.
