Did the Minsk Zoo prepare for the winter maintenance of lions – environmental experts checked

Specialists of the Minsk City Committee of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection on the eve of the first frosts checked the conditions of detention of a popular pair of predators from the Minsk Zoo.

- Mingorkompriroda received an appeal that the conditions in which the lion Sherhan and the lioness Kiara live in the capital zoo are not suitable for their wintering in our latitudes. The applicant pointed to insufficient space for the couple and lack of heating of the dwelling.

Employees of the Mingorkompriroda and SPC of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on biological resources once again checked the conditions of keeping wild animals. It is established that the inner compartment of the enclosure is insulated and equipped with a heated floor, the degree of which is regulated by automation, there is a shelf-bed, there is a fresh litter. In addition, in another part of the enclosure there is an insulated shelter house, which is also used by both lions for sleep and rest.

- The appearance and well-being of the lion and the lioness are satisfactory, they enjoy the autumn sun and show typical activity for their kind, the committee concluded.
