1.5 million seedlings have been prepared. Pine and birch will be planted by the participants of the action “Give the forest a new zhyzzo!”

How many seedlings will be planted in the forests of the Gomel region, the participants of the republican action “Give the forest a new zhyzzo!”, which will be held in Belarus from 17 to 24 October, and on what areas the main front of work will unfold, told the Gomel State Production Forestry Association (GPLHO). “The scale of the planned works this year is impressive: about 1.5 million seedlings were prepared for the participants of the action in the region,” the GPLHO noted.

As noted in the association, the main forest-forming species in the region are pine and birch. That is why during the action will be used mainly seedlings of these breeds. “They are perfectly adapted to the local climate and soils,” the researchers explained.

The area fully provides itself with planting material. It is grown in its own forest nurseries and greenhouse farms.

According to GPLHO, in the autumn, it is planned to create forest crops on an area of more than 700 hectares, the addition of previously created forest crops on an area of more than 10 thousand hectares. Sites for the creation of forest crops and additions during the action “Give the forest a new zhyzzo!” were also identified. “Their area is 88.8 hectares and 610.6 hectares, respectively. This year, priority is given to the addition of forest crops in areas where reforestation was previously carried out after the development of plantations damaged by strong winds in 2024-2025. In past years, we were engaged in the development of windbreaks, their reforestation, and today our task is to carry out a qualitative addition to forest crops and make them successfully take root, the association said.

Residents of the Gomel region every year show initiative and gladly participate in actions to create and restore forests.

If we talk about numbers, more than 10 thousand people take part in the creation of a new forest annually. These are forestry workers and volunteers: representatives of youth, various organizations, state bodies, deputy corps, representatives of public organizations. People go with families and enthusiastically join the action, — noted in GPLHO.
