An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred in the East Kazakhstan region. The epicenter was located 256 km southeast of Ust-Kamenogorsk, reports the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The incident was recorded on Wednesday at 18:53 Moscow time. The epicenter was located about 71 km from the border with China and 100 km from the border with Russia. The intensity of the concussion was 4 on the MSK-64 scale.
Tremors occurred near the active focus of seismic activity in the Altai mountains. This region covers the territories of Russia, Mongolia, China and Kazakhstan. One of the strongest manifestations of activity in this zone was the Chui earthquake of 2003.
