Holy life
Blessed Matrona (Matrona Dimitrievna Nikonova) was born in 1881 in the village of Sebino, Tula province. Her parents, Dimitri and Natalia, were pious people. There were four children in the family. The youngest daughter, Matrona, came into this world special: she was born blind, but the Lord gave the girl spiritual vision. From the age of seven, Matrona had the gift of predicting and healing the sick.
In adolescence, the daughter of a local landowner took Matrona with her on a pilgrimage: to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, St. Petersburg. In Kronstadt she met with St. John of Kronstadt, who publicly said to the 14-year-old Matrona: "Here comes my shift - the eighth pillar of Russia.".
In the seventeenth year, the girl lost the ability to walk: her legs suddenly took off. Until the end of her days, the saint remained seated, but never murmured because of her illness, but humbly carried a heavy cross.
In 1925, Matrona moved to Moscow, where she lived until the end of her days. His life was full of prayers and prayers at night. The saint received up to 40 people on the day. People came to her with their troubles, mental, and bodily pain. She refused to help anyone except those who came with evil intentions. She comforted, comforted the sick, patted them on the head. She was short-spoken and answered questions briefly. She taught not to judge others, to love and forgive the old and infirm. As a true ascetic, the blessed one taught not with words, but with her life. Unable to walk, she instructed to walk the difficult path of salvation.
Heavenly intercessor in all matters
On May 2, 1952, Mother died. Before her death, she said, “All of you, all of you, come to me and tell me your sorrows as if alive, and I will see you and hear you and help you.” In 2004, Blessed Matrona of Moscow was listed as a saint.
It helps believers in life difficulties, illnesses and sorrows. According to the clergy, the saint does not divide human misfortunes into important and minor, she is addressed with any pressing experiences.
