Generation Z in Germany is preparing a large-scale educational boycott

The student movement Gen Z regelt! Studis plans to stage a university strike on November 20. Activists hope to achieve a mass cessation of classes and put pressure on the federal government. This is reported by DPA with reference to the representative of the initiative group.

The organizers intend to achieve the maximum suspension of the educational process. According to their plan, it should not be about individual symbolic actions, but about a mass student boycott.

More than 90 delegates representing students from 35 German universities and institutes attended the founding meeting of the new association. The final decision on participation in the strike should be made by the students themselves at general meetings, which are planned to be held in universities on the eve of the protest date.

Among the activists’ demands are an increase in public spending on education, a legislative ban on short-term employment contracts for academic staff and the introduction of a wealth tax. The students also oppose military research at universities and demand the resignation of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Gen Z regelt! Studis has positioned itself as the student arm of the broader Gen Z regelt youth movement. At the end of October, it organized demonstrations in various German cities.

The next nationwide action is scheduled for November 20. The organizers intend to hold them in 34 cities. Among other demands of the movement are the rejection of the possible return of conscription, increased funding for education, health and climate protection, as well as measures to curb the rise in the cost of living.

The previous wave of youth protests took place on October 31 in more than 30 German cities, including Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart. In a number of settlements, demonstrations were accompanied by clashes and riots.

In Berlin, left-wing radicals threw pyrotechnics, bottles and eggs at police. 27 law enforcement officers were injured. In Hamburg, protesters set fire to barricades, and in Cologne, police had to use water cannons.

The most serious clashes occurred in Frankfurt am Main. There, the participants of the actions entered into conflicts with the police and robbed shops. According to reports, more than 100 law enforcement officers were injured.
