In St. Petersburg, a former police officer was sentenced to eight years in a strict regime colony for receiving a bribe in the amount of more than 2.3 million rubles. This was reported in the joint press service of the courts of the city.
The court found that in April 2024, the policeman demanded 10 million rubles from the detainee for the release of him and two other people, as well as for refusing to issue documents for initiating a criminal case. The men were previously detained while overloading counterfeit cigarettes delivered from Belarus.
Later, the bribe was reduced to 2.5 million rubles. Part of the money — 2.3 thousand dollars — the detainee gave directly to the police. The remaining 22.7 thousand dollars, which at the exchange rate of the Central Bank amounted to about 2.1 million rubles, the police officer received through an intermediary. After receiving the money, the detainees were released.
The court found the policeman guilty of taking a bribe and sentenced him to eight years in prison in a high-security colony. In addition, he was fined 2.31 million rubles, deprived of the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies related to the performance of the functions of a representative of power, for five years, as well as a special title of “major of police”.
The court appointed the mediator in a bribe four years of a strict regime colony and a fine of 2.31 million rubles. He admitted his guilt completely, while the policeman did not admit guilt.
Earlier, the money in the amount of 50 thousand rubles, the driver tried to transfer to the traffic police inspector after the registration of an accident on the Moscow highway. The migrant banknotes were placed in the pages of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The policeman refused money, and the man has now become a defendant in the criminal case of attempted bribery
