Polar terns from NAO overcome up to 70 thousand kilometers to Antarctica

More than 160 species of birds live in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and only about 20 of them remain here for wintering. This was reported in the State reserve “Nenets”.
By mid-October, most migratory birds are leaving the region. Only small groups of waders, geese and swans that have not yet flown away can be found on tundra lakes.
Some birds travel from the county to Europe and southern regions of Russia, others reach Africa. For example, the punoka waits out the winter in Belarus, the southern and middle strip of Russia. Red Book Falcon-Sapsan winters in Western Europe and North Africa.
Many populations of white-headed goose, white-cheeked goose and caterpillar winter in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark. Swans for the most part travel from the tundra to the UK, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands. Kulics from the Nenets Autonomous Okrug winter in Africa: in Senegal, Mali, Niger, Eritrea and Zambia.
The champions in flight range are the polar terns. They fly to winter from the Arctic to Antarctica and cover up to 70 thousand kilometers.
