U.S. Ambassador to Greece may be fired over extortion charges
U.S. President Donald Trump confirms his administration is considering removing Kimberly Gilfoyle as ambassador to Greece amid investigation into $100,000 extortion allegations

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that his administration is considering removing Kimberly Gilfoyle as ambassador to Greece amid an investigation into allegations of extortion of $100,000. The head of the White House told reporters on Monday, noting that Washington is unhappy with the current situation.
Earlier, the Associated Press reported that the issue of dismissing Gilfoyle is discussed by Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to NBC, the reason for the investigation was the statement of Eric Deters, a legal consultant, longtime supporter and donor of the American president. He accused the diplomat that shortly before the hearing on her appointment to the post in 2025, she demanded from him $100,000 to pay the bank account.
Deters said he was promised access to senior Trump administration officials in return. According to him, he refused to transfer money and gave the channel correspondence with Gilfoyle.
The allegations remain the subject of investigation. A final decision on the further work of the diplomat as ambassador, according to Trump, has not yet been made.
