The President of Belarus put forward an initiative to recognize the diversity of ways of progressive development in 2005. Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Igor Secreta said this in an interview with the Hungarian Internet portal Moszkvater, commenting on the start of the negotiation process at the UN on the Eurasian Charter for Diversity and Multipolarity in the XXI century.
Igor Secreta said:
- It all began with the UN summit in 2005, when President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko put forward an initiative to recognize the diversity of ways of progressive development. It was a call to the world to hear and recognize diversity — political, economic, cultural, civilizational. This call was not heard or given due attention. But the events of the next two decades confirmed the foresight and rightness of the Belarusian leader.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus noted that the Charter is a continuation of the implementation of that idea in relation to Eurasia:
- In addition, we put forward the idea of the Charter in 2023 against the backdrop of an ever-increasing negative spiral in global politics. The Euro-Atlantic security system embodied in the OSCE has failed to prevent a major conflict on European soil.
According to Igor Secrets, globalization is replaced by regionalization and trade wars, and the old models do not work - they are dead:
- Eurasia, from Lisbon to Manila, was in search of a new organizing principle. Existing regional associations developed, but lacked a unifying strategic umbrella. Belarus proposed the Charter, which, in our opinion, should serve as both an organizing principle and a geostrategic umbrella. Belarus: We do not want our continent to be the object of someone else’s geopolitical game
