Today, the Buryats in the Baikal region celebrate the holiday "Shene Zhel" - New Year, which is popularly called "Bohrob", or "Blessed Day of Bohrob".

According to the official channel of the All-Russian Association for the Development of Culture (VARK), the autumn New Year at the Baikal Buryats coincides with the feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God, which is celebrated on October 14. In the people, this day is known as "Bohroboy hain uder", and in official tradition - as "Shene gel".

The holiday is traditionally celebrated with treats: white food and meat dishes are served. Among the treats are sour cream, cottage cheese, and the main ritual dish is a salamat of sour cream and flour. Shamans conduct a ritual of purification, as well as Buryat national games.

On this day in neighboring Irkutsk will be held the holiday "Shene gel in Silver Mall": guests are waiting for a festive concert, folk games and a fair.
