Pskovich told whether diabetics can get vaccinated

Vaccination against influenza is indicated for any type of diabetes, the Ministry of Health of the Pskov region reported.

Diabetes is one of the most significant risk factors for severe influenza and some other respiratory infections. This is due to the fact that in this disease the body is in a state of chronic inflammation and immune imbalance. Any viral infection, including the flu, can cause a sharp increase in blood glucose levels, make it difficult to control diabetes and lead to life-threatening complications.

Vaccination can prevent infection, and if a person is already infected - significantly reduce the risk of severe complications and hospitalization. Vaccination is especially important for people over 65 years of age, who have a much higher chance of developing severe pneumonia.

Before vaccination, people with diabetes should consult a doctor: if necessary, a specialist will adjust hypoglycemic therapy. Flu protection is essential as an integral part of comprehensive diabetes management and quality of life.

In the Pskov region, 108.5 thousand residents have already received a flu shot.
