“Drink less”: alcohol consumption in Russia fell to a minimum in 30 years
At the end of September 2026, alcohol consumption amounted to 7.47 liters of pure alcohol per person per year - this is at least for the last 30 years

Since the beginning of the year, the figure fell by 0.59 liters. Such low figures were last recorded back in 1996 - then there were 7.3 liters per person.
However, there is a nuance: until 2008, statistics took into account mainly official sales. And in the 90s, illegal alcohol accounted for a huge share of the market – up to two-thirds! So real consumption could have been higher.
What about the regions? The least drink in Moscow – 4.39 liters per person per year. In St. Petersburg - 5.83 liters, in the Novosibirsk region - 7.8. But in Tatarstan (9.63) and Sverdlovsk region (9.84) the indicators are higher. The difference between Moscow and the Sverdlovsk region is more than five liters!
By the way, the Russians also began to eat more pork – more than 31 kg per person per year. It's a historic high. So maybe we're switching to meat instead of alcohol? A joke, of course. But the trend is encouraging.
