A worker from Wales Gavin Pugh received compensation in the amount of $13 million (1.1 billion rubles) after a serious injury in the workplace. The man fell from a 10-meter height while dismantling a power line support, the Daily Mail reported.
The accident occurred in East Staffordshire. Pugh secured the safety cable for part of the structure that another crew was working on at the time. He didn't know that the section was fixed from one end only. When the worker transferred the weight to her, the structure turned vertically, the insurance jumped and the man fell down.
After the fall, Pugh was paralyzed and now constantly uses a wheelchair. He also suffered injuries to his brain, neck, shoulder, ribs and internal organs.
Wood Transmission and Distribution Ltd., which the man worked for, has come under fire from the UK's Occupational Health and Safety Authority. The department said that proper security measures were not provided at the facility.
After out-of-court negotiations, Pugh was awarded a $13 million compensation package. The funds will be used to pay for treatment, round-the-clock care and compensation for future earnings that the man lost due to injury.
“I cannot work or go out with friends. My life fell apart. The agreement ensures that I will be provided for the rest of my life and taken care of, Pugh said. Prior to the accident, he was an active and sociable man, loved his job and owned a fishing boat, according to his lawyers.
