Revealed where the security of the toilet costs 11 thousand euros per month
German authorities in Cologne spend up to 11 thousand euros a month to protect a public toilet in the city center

German authorities in Cologne spend up to 11,000 euros a month to guard a public toilet in the city centre. According to Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, the protected object is located on Krebsgasse Street near Neumarkt Square.
Security has been operating at the toilet container since May 2022. Employees should not allow the use of drugs and overnight stay inside the facility.
On weekdays, security is on the spot from 9:00 to 21:00, on Sundays and holidays - until 18:00. At the same time, the entrance to the toilet is paid: visitors need to pay 50 euro cents.
The city’s expenses range from 10 to 11 thousand euros per month. In addition to paying for the work of security guards, this amount includes the rent of a service container, electricity and heating. From May 2022 to May 2025, about 334 thousand euros were allocated for these purposes.
The authorities plan to continue guarding at least until the opening of a new center for people with drug problems. Now its launch is scheduled for August 2027.
If the monthly costs remain at the current level, in five years, the protection of the toilet can cost the city treasury in the amount of 640 to 704 thousand euros. The city hall expects that after the opening of the center, the situation in the Neumarkt district will improve and constant monitoring of the toilet will no longer be required.
