Told about the fate of the “fecal lake” on Bastionnaya in Tambov

The situation around the faulty sewer near Bastionnaya, Main and Aviation Streets, known as the “fecal lake”, remains tense. Experts from the Popular Front have been working on the problem since 2024, but the scale of the environmental disaster continues to grow.

According to activists, a nearby ravine about a kilometer wide is completely filled with sewage. The depth of the spill is assessed as critical. Earlier, on the fact of negligence, the prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case, and the chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin put the issue on personal control.

In 2025, to solve the problem, a working meeting was held with the participation of the administration of Tambov, the Ministry of Ecology, Rospotrebnadzor and RKS-Tambov. The first step was the decision of the Tambov City Duma to transfer the ownerless collector from 2023 to the concession of RKS-Tambov.

However, as the recent visit to the site showed, the situation has not changed. Moreover, a new fact was recorded: unknown people began to dump construction waste into the lake. On this occasion, the activists sent appeals to the prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee with a request to conduct an inspection and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Publicists continue to keep the issue under control, insisting that the long-term malfunction requires urgent and decisive action.
