Red Book black stork made a stop in the mountain cluster of Sochi

Red Book black stork made a stop in the mountain cluster of Sochi. A rare migratory bird was spotted near the Daphne cable car station at an altitude of about 1256 m above sea level.
The unusual guest was noticed by operators of the contact center of the lower station. The press service of Rosa Khutor reported that previously black stork in this area was not observed.
Ornithologist, candidate of biological Sciences Peter Tilba noted that the black stork is much more secretive than its white relative. Birds prefer forest areas and try to stay away from humans.
Black stork is included in the Red Book of Russia. According to experts, there are no more than 500 nesting pairs in the country. Birds usually choose wide river valleys rather than narrow mountain gorges.
In autumn, black storks leave the European part of Russia and go for the winter in the warmer regions of Asia and Africa. On the migration path, birds can follow the Black Sea coast and stop for rest.
Experts believe that the Sochi stork could make a halt near the reservoir to regain strength and find food. It is not recommended to disturb the bird.
Earlier it was reported that more than 120 dogs from the shelter of Sochi found owners.
