X-rays in the Minsk metro: is it safe for things and products – experts explain

In the Minsk metro told about the safety of inspection of hand luggage using X-ray scanners. Checking with their help are the things of passengers – in particular, suitcases and voluminous backpacks. Representatives of the metro stressed that the equipment used meets the current sanitary standards, and its condition is under regular control.

Why X-ray scanners are safe for passengers

The Minsk Metro explained that the use of technical means – including x-ray scanners – for inspection of objects, goods and substances is allowed in the prescribed manner. The equipment at the stations is installed taking into account the current sanitary standards. To monitor safety, experts annually measure the level of X-ray radiation.

Do things and products become radioactive after inspection

Representatives of the subway assured that the energy of X-ray radiation, which is used in the scanners, is too small to change the structure of the objects being tested. Therefore, after passing the control, clothes, personal belongings and other objects do not acquire radioactive properties and retain their original characteristics.

A separate comment concerns food. In 1999, the World Health Organization confirmed that the treatment of products with ionizing radiation is safe, provided that regulated parameters are observed.
