Results of social research characterize stability of Belarusian society – political scientist

The results of the comprehensive republican sociological research, which relate to socio-political topics, characterize the stability of the Belarusian society. This opinion was shared with BelTA political scientist, expert Yuri Shevtsov.

The results show that the overwhelming majority of Belarusians – 87.6% – trust the President of Belarus. The political scientist explained such a high degree of trust to the Head of State by the policy pursued by the President against the background of what is happening in Ukraine, and it has huge internal support in society. The public understands that if politics were different, it could be the same as in Ukraine.

The political scientist commented on the results obtained when respondents answered a block of questions, where they had to assess the activities of the President in various areas of development of Belarus.

For example, the question was asked how respondents assess the activities of the President to ensure security in the country. As a result, 90% of respondents said that they assess the activities of the Head of State as successful, 1,1% - not successful, 8,9% were unsure.

“The policy pursued by the President is optimal from the point of view of our society, both external and internal. In addition, the growth of incomes of the population is important. We are in the niche of the deputies of those foreign manufacturers that were present in the Russian and Belarusian markets before the imposition of sanctions against us. And that niche hasn't been chosen yet. Therefore, we have an increase in the income of the population, he commented.

As for the preservation of peace in the country against the background of the tense world situation, this direction of the Head of State’s activities was rated as successful by 89.8%, not successful by only 1.4%, which is even lower than the arithmetic error, and 8.8% of respondents found it difficult to answer.

The political scientist noted that the Belarusian population, while supporting the policy of the President, supports the close alliance between Belarus and Russia, which ensures the country, for example, nuclear security.

Regarding the strengthening of the international authority of Belarus, the political scientist stressed that the authority of the country has really strengthened, and the population is watching this. The majority of respondents (81.2%) rated this activity as successful.

The political scientist noted that some time ago, when sanctions were imposed against Belarus, the decline in authority was relative, since negotiations were conducted. Now that the United States recognizes the political realities of Belarus and lifts sanctions, we can talk about real successes.

On the issue of maintaining a stable socio-economic situation, 73.5% of respondents assessed the activities of the Head of State as successful, 10% - not successful, 16.5% found it difficult to answer.

Yuri Shevtsov noted that such figures characterize a stable society. If three-quarters are in favor of some important policy for society, about 10% are critics and about 15% are hesitant, this is considered an indicator of stability.

In July - August 2026, the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus commissioned by BISI conducted a comprehensive republican sociological study. It was attended by 2045 respondents from all regions of the country. The first part of the results of the social research, which deals with topical issues of social and economic development of Belarus, was presented in Minsk on September 10. On September 16, the second part on socio-political topics was presented.
