Expert Mikhail Shelyakov in an interview with Life.ru explained why dogs can not chew frosty grass in November.
As the interlocutor of the publication noted, the grass with frost is dangerous due to its pollution, given that urban dust, hydrocarbons, chemicals and road reagents settle on the surface of the grass. The speaker drew attention to the fact that in normal conditions, when the grass is fresh, all this is washed away by rain or dew, and here the dirt remains in the frost crystals, that is, it becomes even more dirty by reducing self-cleaning.
The second danger Shelyakov associated with changing the structure of plants. He explained that frozen grass becomes more rigid, so, pulling the stems, the dog can capture along with the roots of soil particles, and the ground, especially in the city, is not always safe.
The expert added that along with the soil, various contaminants can get into the animal’s body, including helminth eggs, that is, eating autumn grass carries an additional risk of infection with parasites.
