39-year-old man survives heart stabbing he sustained during family conflict

A 39-year-old man survived a knife wound to his heart during a family conflict. Surgeons of the Vsevolozhsk hospital had to sew up the damaged left ventricle at a speed of about 120 beats per minute, told the press service of the ambulance station of the Leningrad region.
When the crew arrived, the knife was no longer in the man’s chest. Eugene pressed the towel to the wound and remained conscious. Doctors conducted anti-shock measures, stabilized his condition and urgently delivered the patient to the Vsevolozhsk hospital.
It turned out that the knife damaged the left ventricle. The size of the wound was about two centimeters. From the admission of the man to the hospital before the operation took only 20 minutes.
Surgeon Denis Shabalin performed a thoracotomy and repaired the damage in less than an hour. We had to work with the heart, which due to shock beat with a frequency of about 120 beats per minute. The doctor compared this operation to work during a severe storm.
After the intervention, Eugene remained in serious condition due to large blood loss. Doctors feared kidney and liver failure, as well as damage to brain cells, but these complications were avoided.
Three days later, the man was transferred from intensive care to the surgical department, and a week later began to prepare for discharge. Now Evgeny lives a full life, but he needs to be monitored for life by a cardiologist.
