Rostov residents witnessed an unusual atmospheric phenomenon “Venus Belt”

On the night of October 13, residents of the Rostov region witnessed an unusual atmospheric phenomenon known as the “belt of Venus”. This was reported by astronomer Nikolai Demin.

An unusual sight could be seen in the Zernograd district. In the night sky, painted in purple, a reddish or pink stripe stood out. This phenomenon is usually observed at dusk, just before sunrise or immediately after sunset, in the part of the sky that is opposite the sun.

According to Nicholas, this atmospheric phenomenon has nothing to do with the planet Venus. It was named after the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite, known in Roman mythology as Venus.

The astronomer explained that the mechanism of the origin of the belt of Venus is quite complex. It is caused by optical effects such as diffraction, scattering and refraction of light. The color of the belt depends on the state of the atmosphere, including its humidity and dustiness.
