“The Russians live in the mud!”: the American came to St. Petersburg and was shocked by the request to open the window
American Sarah came to St. Petersburg, confident in advance that Russian cities are drowning in mud, and apartments leave much to be desired. However, the trip made her question her own ideas.

A Russian friend asked the woman to test her beliefs in practice. The condition was simple: if Sarah finds a serious problem with cleanliness, he will admit her right. If not, she will have to tell about her impressions honestly, writes Zen channel “Talking about education”.
The first surprise awaited the American on the way from the station. Instead of the expected devastation, she saw an ordinary large city with well-groomed streets, clean transport and beautiful historical buildings.
Then there was a curious episode in the taxi. Sarah smelled perfume and scented laundry so strongly that her companion asked her to open the window. The woman explained that she used to use several of these products daily and considers their smell a sign of purity.
The next day, Sarah decided to inspect the apartment. She carefully checked the kitchen and bathroom, peered under the sink and tried to find dust or dirt. However, serious shortcomings could not be found.
While walking around St. Petersburg, the American continued to pay attention to the courtyards, streets and condition of houses. Of course, there were old buildings and neglected areas, but the city was not at all what she imagined.
In the end, Sarah admitted that many of her ideas about Russia were based on other people’s stories, not on personal experience. The trip showed her how much expectations can diverge from reality
