Fishermen of Karelia reported on the extraction of more than 600 tons of rags and smelt

According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, the total catch of aquatic biological resources by Karelian enterprises since the beginning of this year has exceeded 84 thousand tons.

Most of it, about 80,000 tons, comes from ocean fisheries (the Atlantic and the Barents Sea). The increase is due to the active catch of cod, haddock, herring and blues. At the moment, quotas for ocean fishing are mastered by local companies by 90%.

As for the internal reservoirs of the republic, here the volume of production amounted to 1.2 thousand tons. Leading positions in the catch are ragweed (101 tons) and smelt (552 tons). In addition, 1.4 thousand tons of biological resources were extracted in the White Sea, where seaweed, in particular fucuses, remain the key fishing object.
