Happy Teacher's Day: heartfelt cards and sincere congratulations

History of the holiday

The roots of this holiday go back to the Soviet past. In the USSR, Education Workers Day was established in 1965 and was celebrated on the first Sunday of October.

In 1994, under the auspices of UNESCO, World Teachers’ Day was proclaimed with a permanent date – 5 October. Since then, the same date has been adopted in post-Soviet Russia.

Despite the change of eras and dates, the basis of festive traditions remained unchanged. Russian educational institutions organize solemn lines, creative concerts and days of self-government, when high school students try themselves as mentors. The main element of the holiday are sincere words of gratitude: children and graduates of past years give teachers flowers, souvenirs and send colorful electronic messages to say “thank you” for patience, knowledge and life guidelines.
