In autumn, swimming pools are filled with families with children, as a result of which the risk of contracting enterovirus infection increases. This reminds the Department of epidemiological surveillance and sanitary protection of the territory of the Department of Rospotrebnadzor in the Saratov region.
Enteroviruses are capable of affecting many organs and tissues: the central and peripheral nervous system, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, skin, organs of vision. The infection can manifest itself in a variety of clinical forms – from mild respiratory diseases or intestinal disorders to more serious conditions, such as serous viral meningitis.
Young children need a small dose of a dangerous pathogen to develop enterovirus infection. In pools, standard concentrations of chlorine may not be sufficient to completely eliminate resistant strains of viruses, so personal hygiene plays an important role in prevention.
Doctors recommend explaining to children that diving with your eyes and mouth open is dangerous. Even the minimum amount of water swallowed will be enough to infect. It is necessary to use glasses for swimming.
“Do not visit the pool in the presence of any skin damage: scratches, abrasions, open calluses. Any wound is an open gate for infection, which will instantly enter the bloodstream upon contact with water, the Rospotrebnadzor said. After visiting the pool, the towel should be washed immediately.
