The average air temperature in Belarus in September 2026 was 13.9 degrees, which is 1.2 degrees higher than the climatic norm. This and higher average monthly air temperature in September is recorded approximately once every 7-8 years. The warmest September was in 2024 with an average monthly air temperature of 17.5 degrees, which is 4.8 degrees above the climatic norm, Belhydromet said.
The positive temperature anomaly spread throughout the country and was mostly in the range of 1 to 1.6 degrees.
In the regional context, the greatest values of positive deviations of air temperature from the climatic norm were noted in the Mogilev and Vitebsk regions (1.3 degrees on average for each region), in the Gomel region, deviations were the least (1.1 degrees).
The average temperature of all ten days of the month was above normal. The first and second decades were higher than normal by 1.4 degrees, the third decade - by 0.9 degrees.
“The daytime temperature for the month was mainly 19-25 degrees Celsius. On some days, mainly in the third decade of the month, it dropped to plus 18 and below. On September 9 and 10, the air warmed up to plus 30 and above in the south of the country, the climatologists noted.
The maximum value (31.5 degrees) air temperature reached the afternoon of September 9 at Brest station.
The air temperature at night on most days of the month was in the range of 8-14 degrees, and on the coldest nights dropped to plus 5 and below. The minimum air temperature was noted at the station Ezeriche on September 29 and amounted to 0.7 degrees.
During the month, on average, 72 mm of precipitation fell across the country, which was 134% of the climatic norm. This and wetter September occurs on average once every 4 years. For most of the country fell 100-155% of the rainfall. In some areas, mainly in the north of the country, fell more than two monthly rainfall.
In the regions, the most precipitation was observed in the Vitebsk region - on average, 109 mm, or 185% of the norm, fell in the region. The least in the Brest region is 45 mm, or 85% of the norm.
During the first and third decades, there was an excess of precipitation. In the first decade fell 27 mm of precipitation, or 131% of the decade norm, in the third decade – 36 mm, or 221% of the norm. In the second decade, the national average fell 10 mm, or 57% of rainfall.
“There were fogs throughout the month. The rains were mainly heavy and mainly in the first decade were accompanied by thunderstorms. On some days in places around the country, there was an increase in wind speed with gusts up to 15 meters per second or more. The maximum wind speed per month (20 meters per second) was recorded on September 5 at the stations Slutsk and Novogrudok, — added climatologists.
