Sergeenko to the participants of the SG forum: you are the advanced squad that will become the voice of the heirs of the winners

The role of the younger generation in protecting historical truth and memory, as well as in uniting society is colossal. It is the youth who represent the advanced ideological detachment that should become the voice of the heirs of the victors and creators. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia Igor Sergeenko during the plenary session of the Youth Forum of the Union State “Memory”. For the second year in a row, Mogilev has become a place of attraction for the best young people of Belarus and Russia. Our peoples are close in spirit, attitude to life, to their history, moral values, Igor Sergeenko emphasized and expressed confidence that the program of the festival “Youth for the Union State”, sincere communication during the upcoming events are a guarantee that the Union project has a future that is based on the foundation of common values. Of particular importance is the fact that the initiative of the Parliamentary Assembly is supplemented by an academic part, Igor Sergeenko noted:

- Such concepts as memory, choice, responsibility, which make up the motto of the forum, have firmly entered the consciousness of the youth of Belarus and Russia and are a faithful compass on the path of service to the Motherland. You can’t move toward a goal without knowing the starting point. Any person builds his future, based on family traditions and stories, experience, features of the environment in which he was formed as a person. Collective memory, traditional values and reliable moral guidelines help to unite society and give the state the necessary safety margin in the conditions of large-scale geopolitical transformations.

Today we can see the attempts of the collective West to solve the systemic problems of the political and economic model at the expense of the well-being of other countries and peoples. The entire arsenal of funds is involved, Igor Sergeenko stressed:

- From political pressure and economic sanctions to the unprecedented scale of information and psychological warfare. Wars for you, dear friends, for your minds, meanings and values. You are the descendants of the generation of victors of the multinational Soviet people, who in difficult times for the Motherland at the cost of unprecedented efforts and heroism survived and liberated the world from the brown plague. And today, again, as in those distant years, it is important for us to maintain unity, speaking with a broad front against followers of Nazi ideology, attempts to revise the results of the Second World War. The current falsifiers of history are trying to divide our peoples and reformat the consciousness of the younger generation. But they forget that we live on Earth with the abundant blood of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers.

Igor Sergeenko stressed that the bitterness of losses affected every family and settled in the hearts of people and that is why the memory of the Great Victory is so important. Our peoples remember the heroic defenders of the Brest Fortress and Mogilev, Moscow and Stalingrad, as well as the steadfastness of the inhabitants of besieged Leningrad. The speaker recalled the triumph of Soviet weapons at the Kursk arc, during Operation Bagration and, finally, the Berlin operation, which finished off the fascist creep in its own lair.

- The most important thing is that the feat of the winner for us is not just archival documents or dates in school textbooks. This includes the rejection of lies, cruelty, and the colossal responsibility for maintaining peace, security, humanism and justice. By defending the truth about war, we are defending our right and the right of our children to live in peace and harmony. Preserving a lively connection of times is a task for us no less significant, no less important than building up our defense potential along the perimeter of the Union State.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly stressed that a special mission in ensuring sovereign development in the era of hybrid challenges should be fulfilled by the academic community of Belarus and Russia, including its youth part, to which he addressed:

- Today you represent that advanced, I will not hesitate to say this, ideological detachment that should become the voice of the heirs of the victors and creators. The parliamentary dimension of the Union State purposefully creates mechanisms that allow young people not only to talk about problems, but also to directly participate in their resolution. Your task is not just to observe politics, but to be ready to take responsibility for the future of your countries, guided by the principle: "One Fatherland, two states." It is necessary to preserve all the best that we have left from previous generations in the common space, from Brest to Vladivostok, reliably ensuring peace, sovereignty, security and well-being of our fraternal countries and peoples.

Igor Sergeenko expressed confidence that communication at the forum will be an important step in consolidating the meanings underlying the Union building, enriching historical science, and contributing to the successful implementation of projects to preserve and protect historical memory.
