Shocking case in Moscow: an American woman saw children alone in the yard and exclaimed: “Where are their parents?” The Russian response forced her to sit down
Sarah came to Moscow, fearing for safety on the streets. But one walk in an ordinary courtyard made her question her own ideas about life in Russia.

Children from about seven to twelve years old played on the playground. There were no moms or dads nearby, and the children ran quietly, played ball and communicated with each other.
“This is crazy! Where are their parents? Why are they alone? asked Sarah.
She explained that in many Russian families, children are gradually getting used to independence. They learn to walk without constant supervision of adults, communicate with peers and return home themselves, writes Zen channel “Talking about education”.
In Sarah's hometown, things are different. Parents often accompany children to school, classes and even to the store. Independent walks often cause anxiety in adults.
The conversation continued with the topic of security. Sarah was told about the Moscow video surveillance system and the work of emergency services. At the same time, the presence of cameras alone does not guarantee complete safety, but can help in the investigation of accidents.
The American looked at the scene again. The children still played, laughed and argued, disregarding the adults.
“We would call this irresponsibility. And now I think it could be trust, she admitted.
The usual walk made Sarah think about how different parents in Russia and the United States feel about children’s independence. What used to seem foolish to her now appears in a different light.
