SK: Belarusians are trying to recruit for terrorist attacks on infrastructure

Unknown people are trying to involve Belarusian citizens in terrorist activities, offering money for committing crimes, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports with reference to the Investigative Committee.

According to the agency, most often attackers are looking for performers in various chat rooms. First, they enter into a dialogue and try to gain trust, find the weak points of the interlocutor, exert psychological pressure, and then offer a “part-time job”. We are talking about arson on the railway and other infrastructure.

One of the cases occurred with an 18-year-old boy. An unknown person wrote to him in Telegram and offered him an “easy income” – to set fire to relay cabinets that control the movement of trains and signals. The attackers did not hide that the purpose of such actions is to disrupt international logistics with Russia and create conditions for a disaster on the railway. The young man did not agree and appealed to law enforcement.

The IC stressed that this is not an isolated case - other attempts at recruitment have been recorded. Such crimes are qualified as an act of terrorism (Article 289 of the Criminal Code), and the sanction of the article provides for an exceptional penalty.
Law enforcement officers actively identify such radical groups at the stage of their appearance, and terrorist attacks are stopped at the stage of preparation. The Ministry also reminded: when detaining especially dangerous criminals, law enforcement officers have the right to use physical force, special means and firearms.
