The ninth of October is the Day of the defeat of German fascist forces by Soviet troops in the battle for the Caucasus. This battle became one of the longest and bloodiest during the Great Patriotic War. It lasted 442 days - from July 25, 1942, second only to the defense of Leningrad. The front line stretched for a thousand kilometers, and the depth of battles reached 800 kilometers.
In honor of the historical date and within the framework of patriotic education of youth, the investigator of the control and investigation department of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Penza region Akchurina K.E., together with the representative of the Penza regional library for children and youth Tokareva A.V. and a researcher of the Institute of Regional Development, a member of the Penza branch of the “Search Movement of Russia” Inaldiev E.M. held an open lesson of courage for students of the Penza College of Transport Technologies.
The children were told about the key stages of the battle for the Caucasus, its strategic importance and examples of unparalleled courage of Soviet soldiers and officers. Students learned about the heroic defense of the passes of the Main Caucasus Range, the battles for Novorossiysk, Tuapse and Malgobek, as well as the complete liberation of the North Caucasus by October 9, 1943.
The lecturers recalled that the German command aimed to capture the richest oil regions of the Caucasus and the fertile agricultural lands of the Kuban and Stavropol. These resources could give Germany a decisive advantage in the war. Thanks to the coordinated actions of the army, navy and aviation, it was possible to gradually turn the tide of the battles and move to a counteroffensive.
Akchurina K.E. stressed that the preservation of the historical memory of the heroic past of the country and the education of pride for the exploits of grandfathers and great-grandfathers is the basis for the formation of a mature civil position.
