Smolensk blood center is looking for donors to save future mothers and babies
In the Smolensk blood center is a large-scale action to attract donors of antirhesus plasma

In the Smolensk blood center is a large-scale action to attract donors of antirhesal plasma. This is a unique biomaterial necessary for the production of antirhesus immunoglobulin, which saves the lives of children in Rh conflict.
Rh conflict is a condition when the mother has a negative Rh factor, and the child has a positive one. During the first pregnancy, problems usually do not arise, but during childbirth, fetal blood can enter the mother's body. Her immune system perceives a “foreign” protein as a threat and begins to produce antibodies. In subsequent pregnancies, these antibodies can attack the erythrocytes of the unborn child, which leads to serious consequences:
Severe anemia and oxygen starvation;
Fetal dropsy (survival less than 20%);
Critically low hemoglobin after birth with the need for emergency transfusions;
Jaundice with a risk of brain damage;
Intrauterine death in the late stages.
The only way to prevent tragedy is the introduction of antirhesus immunoglobulin to the expectant mother. This drug cannot be created artificially, it can only be obtained from human plasma containing the necessary antibodies.
There are two types of donors:
Women with Rh negative who have already faced Rh conflict.
Rh-negative volunteers (men and women from 18 to 50 years old) who have undergone special immunization. For passing the course of immunization and achieving the desired antibody titer, they are paid an additional compensation - 30% of the average Russian subsistence minimum.
The blood center emphasizes that each such donation becomes a chance for a healthy pregnancy and childbirth. Donors can contact for details at 6 Kovtyukha St., Smolensk, or by phone +7 (4812)38-18-01 and 8 800 333-33-43.
