First social institutions, then residential buildings in Brest from October 12 will begin to supply heat

From Monday, October 12, in Brest will start to turn on heating. Kindergartens, schools, hospitals and other social institutions will be the first to receive warmth. Then the utilities will start connecting the housing stock, and then the rest of the consumers. The corresponding decision was made by the Brest City Executive Committee, writes sb.by.

This year, the heating season in the regional center will begin 13 days later than last year. In 2025, the heat began to serve on September 29. To postpone the launch of the system to a later date allowed warm weather, but in the coming days forecasters predict a decrease in temperature.

Andrey Gashev, General Director of KUMPE Brest City Housing and Utilities, explained that in Brest consumers will be connected in stages. This is necessary to avoid excessive stress on heat sources. There are 49 of them in the city, while 29 provide heat to the main part of the housing stock.

- Starting from October 12, we will start connecting social institutions – kindergartens, schools and hospitals. We will try to carry out this work as quickly as possible. Then, approximately on Tuesday-Wednesday, taking into account the temperature of the outside air, we plan to start the housing stock. The city needs to start heating in about 1900 residential buildings. On the direct start-up of the system is given up to five days, after which it is adjusted for another ten days. Therefore, we ask Brest residents to be patient: the heat will come to the houses sequentially, in accordance with the schedules, said Andrey Gashev.

Work will not be interrupted on the weekend. If the connection of the housing stock begins on Wednesday, the utilities plan to complete the main stage by Sunday. After that, specialists will continue to regulate the system, remove air traffic jams and eliminate local problems.

Therefore, in the first days of batteries in different houses and even apartments can warm up unevenly. Among the possible reasons are air traffic jams and the need for additional adjustment of intra-home systems. Due to changes in the temperature of the coolant, leaks on radiators can also occur. If the batteries remain cold after connecting the house or a malfunction is detected, residents should leave a request on the number 115.

The previous heating season ended in April 2026 and, according to Andrey Gashev, became one of the longest in the last few years. Usually, the duration of the seasons varies by five to ten days. How long this will last will depend on the weather not only in winter, but also in spring.

The issue of the beginning of the heating season was proposed to all city and district executive committees of the Brest region. The corresponding letter signed by Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Alexander Maksimchuk was sent to the heads of districts.
