Salt marshes near Lake Elton in the Volgograd region turned crimson color
In the natural park "Eltonsky" began the peak flowering of halophytes. These salt-loving plants covered the shores and salt marshes - the territory acquired a bright crimson-red hue

According to the Committee of Natural Resources, Forestry and Ecology of the Volgograd region, Elton is the largest mineral lake in Europe. The flora of the park includes about 500 species of plants. Here you can see the transition from steppe flora to a specific halophytic.
Solyankas are able to store moisture in stems and leaves to survive in drought. With the arrival of cold weather, their life cycle ends, and the color becomes saturated maroon. Against the background of scorched Trans-Volga steppes, salt marshes look like a solid carpet. Scientists note that the halophytes of Prieltonya demonstrate an amazing adaptation to extreme conditions - they survive on saline soils.
Specialists of the natural park warn: visitors are allowed to walk only on trails so as not to damage fragile roots, and it is forbidden to tear plants.
